Midori Sour

Midori Sour

The Midori Sour's chief ingredient, Midori, was launched in the U.S. in 1978 by Suntory. Midori's flavor is derived from Japanese musk melons and the cantaloupe-like yubari fruit, both of which are infused into neutral green spirits. Before bottling, the melon spirit is blended with brandy and sugar and dosed with food coloring to achieve its characteristic bright green color. There are few substitutes for this emblem of 1970s excess, and we used none of them.
